New $1.5m boat ramp planned for Bundegi Beach

Bundegi Beach in Exmouth is to get a new $1.5 million boat ramp.

The existing ramp has been covered by sand, making it the third to be buried by the moving coastline.

The Shire of Exmouth must remove the build-up of sand on the ramp after every high tide.

Shire chief executive Phil Anastasakis says the proposed new ramp will be erected on piles like a jetty.

He says this will allow the tides and sand to wash over and under the ramp instead of building up on top of it.

"It's a very high profile and important boat ramp because it's used by a lot of visitors when they come up here due to its accessibility to some of the boating areas and also with Bundegi being a popular recreation area and less subject to tides," he said.

"A lot of people go out there to swim and snorkel, so the boat ramp itself is a valuable and highly used area."
