WA Govt playing politics with water issue: Nationals

The National party has accused the Western Australian Minister for Water Resources of playing politics with water reform.

The Nationals Water Resources spokesman and MP for Stirling, Terry Redman, says this week's changes to water licensing fees are unfair because they do not target residential consumers.

He insists water licence fees should be spread among both agricultural and domestic users, including those in the metropolitan area.

Mr Redman says excluding metropolitan areas means agricultural users pay higher fees than they should.

"That will have to be picked up by the remaining licence holders and of course that's back onto the farming community," he said.

"I raised in Parliament the desire to include all those areas that are under pressure and that includes the city areas, and I think the Minister's playing politics with this.

"He's really not putting in place good policy for dealing with water reform."

The Minister, John Kobelke, says the changes are fair.
